There is a rumour that the Kennel Club will permit a parade of Heritage Breeds, but still insist upon the 'victim' tag of vulnerable breeds.

Are there any facts available?

If it is on the Saturday there will be Toy and Utility breeds on site anyway. Very few Heritage Breeds fall into these categories so others may need to be drafted in for the day.

Hi there

The official and approved 'parade' name is 'A Celebration of Vulnerable British Heritage Dog Breeds'
The word vulnerable was kept in because we are not covering all British Heritage Dog Breeds.

Paul is getting stronger daily and will be back with all guns firing in the next two weeks - then the full details will be available. He has worked very hard for this event - refusing the shortened time and 'graveyard' slot we were originally offered and we now have a longer slot scheduled for a prime time.

I didn't know that he was still poorly. That has gone on for a horribly long time. Poor fellow.

He seems to have managed to acheive quite a lot despite being ill.

Graveyard slot? When was that going to be?

HAPPY NEW YEAR

We should not forget the KC has an official list of “Vulnerable Native Breeds” so it’s not surprising that it wants to use this phrase in its description of our breeds. "Vulnerable" is actually an established term that does have a technical meaning. It is applied to convey the level of threat to a breed and is used by groups like the Rare Breeds Survival Trust when describing threatened breeds of farm animal.
I agree it’s is not the most flattering phrase and not the best PR wording. I hope the KC does move toward a more positive description of our dogs but let's not quibble over a great achievement by Paul.
I'm sure BHDB will begin to build on our great start and really catch the imagination of the doggie public in 2010. Maybe Crufts 2011 will see a parade of British Heritage Dog Breeds rather than Vulnerable Native Breeds!

...and a Happy New Year to you all!

The KC have made no comment about the use of the word 'vulnerable'. But as Kevin has rightly said, it is a useful word that has meaning to the General Public. We provided the name for the event as a transition. We are booked in and 'ready to rumble!'

Good time slot there!

Most people seem to leave as soon as the dogs are allowed to leave, a great surge of people and dogs. Five minutes to four should get a good audience.

Well done!!

Will see you there.
