OK, I think I've got it! I'm a bit slow at times but I think a fair paraphrase would be, "British Heritage Dog Breeds is a branding and marketing exercise aimed at ensuring the future of our rare native breeds by fighting for an increasing share of the market for pedigree dogs".
If that is basically correct then I'd sign up or rather stay signed up. I'd also support the idea of doing the "do-able" and making best use of time and resources. It's fun to develop ambitious ideas that cost £1,000's and take £1,000's of man/woman hours and there are times when even the most ambitious ideas come off. That said they more often stay at the ideas stage and ideas that never get beyond the page don't achive much. Small victories today are worth a lot.
Where I might differ is when it comes to issues of doggie politics. I firmly believe that the KC is the body best suited to developing a strategy for all pedigree dog breeds. As fas as our heritage breeds are concerned I believe the KC has ducked out of taking a strong leadership role. It is our national kennel club and as such it has a clear responsibility for our native breeds. The KC should accept its role and bring forward a bold action plan for all Heritage Breeds, including those whose breed clubs have insisted that they're not VNB's .
This site is being read in "high places", we can be sure of that. It may be that ideas regarding broad strategy are simply dismissed by those in the high rent areas of the dogdom - so be it. I don't think having general debate and differences of opinion weakens this site or dilutes the concept of a Heritage Breed brand. I think it's entirely healthy that different people place emphasis on different things.
My guess is that people here will coalesce around practical measures. Perhaps a way forward would be to develop some literature we could download to give out in our own respective dog worlds.

I'll try to give you a bell on Saturday but I'm a bit tied up setting up a show (Horticultural and Honey show- no dogs allowed!) on Bank Holiday Monday.
