The Kennel Club have just released the 2nd quarter's registration totals for 2009. 2nd quarter total for all breeds was 57,998 with the first quarter being 55,674 giving a grand total of 113,672 dogs registered by the KC for the first 6 months of 2009. The 2008 totals were 65,796 1st quarter with the second being 68,911 giving a total of 134,707 for the first two quarters of 2008. This is a fall in registrations (all breeds) of 21,035, being just over 15%. The following totals for Heritage breeds for the first 6 months of 2009 have to be take in this context.

Each breed will have it's own story, but I was shocked to see that our friends with Irish Red & White Setters have so far in 2009, produced just three registered puppies. This is the only breed to produce less than 25 pups for the first half of 2009. We will need to wait for the end of year totals before we can draw any conclusions, but it does indicate that we still have a lot of work to do.
