"Manchesters and their owners took part in the St George’s Day parade on the streets of Manchester city. Getting to the start of the parade was a bit of a nightmare as all the diversions due to street closures for the parade confused everybody’s sat navs.
But they all arrived in costume and with the Club’s banner that Bill Hague made for us, so that no one could be in any doubt that the dogs were Manchester Terriers. Ann & Chris Harrison arranged the day for the Club and she says that they had a ball walking down crowd lined streets with the sounds of clapping and “Aaaahh Dogeeees”.
They had dressed up in Victorian costume, but Ann says that no one was looking at the handlers, attention was on the dogs. The children leaned over to stroke the dogs and the grown ups asking questions about them. Somebody shouted “Hurray for Manchesters”, which took everyone by surprise. One young man ducked under the barrier and with his gran walked down his street with a dogs lead in his hand. The school children were educated and even the policemen and women interrogated them.
The weather played up too and stayed fine until the last minutes, ruining what was going to be a photo shoot. But we hope that there are pictures on the parade web site. www.stgeorgesparade.org.uk. Thank you to Vicky and Paul Bundy with Dexter and Sara, Mandy and Martin Churms with Poppy, Michelle and David Hopper with Wilson, Julie Milne with Bob, Celia Standring with Mia, Troy, Holly and Ivy, Fiona and Brent Williams with Pumpkin and of course Ann and Chris with their Monty. They managed to raise £40.89 (and a trolley token) for Friends of Manchester Terriers.
The whole parade was such a success that it is going to be an annual event in the town and Manchesters are invited."
